Spiritual Path: Practical Feet
The central theme of Bahá’u’lláh's message is that humanity is a single race, something that science is able to back up; did you know you share 99.9% of your DNA with everyone else on the planet? More than 150 years ago Bahá’u’lláh said that now is the time for us to think of ourselves as a global society, as world citizens, and to look after our interests on a global level so that everyone gets a fair share and can lead a happy and fulfilling life.
One of the purposes of the Bahá'í Faith is to help make this possible. A worldwide community of over five million Bahá'ís, representing most of the nations, races and cultures on earth, is working to give Bahá’u’lláh's teachings practical effect. Their experience will be a source of encouragement to all who share their vision of humanity as one global family and the earth as one homeland.

Some Fundamental Principles of the Bahá’í Faith
The Oneness of God
No matter what we call our Creator, we all worship the same God. There is and always has been one Divine Creator.
All the Major World Religions were Revealed by God
All the major world religions are from the same source and were revealed progressively, at different times and places and in a way that humanity, at that point, could understand. Bahá’u’lláh says that each Manifestation of God is like the sun; each day the sun rises and sets. The days are different but it is the same sun that appears each day.
The Oneness of Humanity
The peoples of the world are all one family and we should treat each other as such. Bahá’ís often use the term ‘Unity in Diversity’ which means the world will unite and live in peace together and still keep its rich cultural diversity.
The Equality of Men and Women
The acknowledgement that men and women are equal in the sight of God. Men and woman do have different qualities but neither is more or less important that the other. Bahá’u’lláh likens humanity to a bird where man is one wing and woman the other. Both wings need to be developed and strong in order that the bird of humanity can fly.
The Abolition of Prejudice in all it’s Forms
We should all be treated with respect and dignity and have access to those things that allow for a comfortable and fulfilling life, regardless of our race, class, creed, nationality, capacities or differences.
The Abolition of Extreme Wealth and Extreme Poverty
Bahá’u’lláh’s view of the world was one where no one goes without while others have far too much. People can have wealth but not at the expense of other people’s well-being.
The Independent Investigation of the Truth
Each person has the right, and the obligation, to search out the truth for themselves. No one must follow what has gone before without a deep and true understanding of why.
Education for Everyone
Everyone should have access to education. Bahá’u’lláh said ‘Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom’.
The Harmony of Science and Religion
Science and religion do not disprove each other or cancel each other out, in fact they work hand-in-hand to uncover the mysteries of the world and our universe in order to benefit mankind and dispel long held superstitions and beliefs that have been detrimental to the prosperity of mankind.
A World Commonwealth of Nations
Global security requires that all countries have a voice and a say in how the world should be run.
An International Auxiliary Language
In addition to our own language we should all learn an international language so that we can all communicate with each other.
