Spiritual Path: Practical Feet
‘Let your vision be world embracing’ - Bahá’u’lláh
The Bahá’í Faith is a worldwide community. You can find Bahá’ís in every country in the world and from a myriad of cultures, backgrounds, ages and lifestyles. Bahá'ís the world over come from all religious backgrounds: Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Jew, Muslim, Sikh, Zoroastrian and even non-religious. What do we hold in common? A belief that Bahá’u’lláh is the Manifestation of God for this age and a desire to work towards creating an exciting new world that’s full of peacefulness and brotherhood (or sisterhood ;-).
As Bahá’ís our sense of unity goes beyond a shared theology. It is expressed in a genuine commitment to taking positive steps towards making moral, spiritual and social progress in our personal lives and on the local, national and international levels. Many of the principles Bahá’ís live their lives by will be very familiar.
We have no clergy or leaders in charge of our spiritual development. Bahá’u’lláh teaches that humanity has moved beyond the point of needing leaders who are (or claim to be) in charge of our spiritual development. Individuals are responsible for their own soul, we make the choices that lead to our development or lack of it. Although influenced by our knowledge, understanding, society, upbringing and a multitude of other factors, there is only one person who can live your life . . . you. And the Bahá’í Writings encourage all of us to live a fulfilling, loving existence that is of benefit to the whole world.
Although we have no clergy we do have a local council of nine yearly elected members called a Spiritual Assembly, as well as national and international councils who guide the Bahá’í community and provide assistance with our spiritual development.
In our personal lives we pray, meditate and read from the writings every day. Bahá’ís are encouraged to evolve a positive outlook on life and to develop the spiritual side. We are encouraged to find our authentic purpose in life and to work in those areas we have natural talents or special interests in.
Local communities come together every 19 days at an event called the Nineteen Day Feast (or Feast for short). At the Feast Bahá’ís pray and meditate together, then consult and share news together and then socialize and enjoy each other’s company.
We also enjoy participating in various community and individual projects such as the ones advertised on this site, e.g. children’s classes, meditation evenings and study groups.
There are many Holy Days during the year that we celebrate with entertaining events or in a simple way in our own homes, depending on the occasion. Most of our Holy Day events are open to all.
Bahá’ís around the world express their commitment to the principles of Bahá’u’lláh chiefly through individual and community transformation. We’re involved in a large number of small-scale, grassroots social and economic development projects that aim to help the wider community benefit from the positive, spiritual outlook of the Bahá’í teachings.

My Best Quote

“I love the gentle nature of the Bahá’í Faith and how we’re encouraged to show our kinder, spiritual side”
❂
O SON OF SPIRIT!
My first counsel is this: Possess a pure, kindly and radiant heart, that thine may be a sovereignty ancient, imperishable and everlasting.
